Game Design: Voice-based LEGO Game Console

I designed and developed a gaming console that employs LEGO bricks and Alexa as the game host for a variety of games (trivia, musical chairs, hot potato and others), incorporating voice-enabled technology to enhance the gaming experience.

Test Your Horror IQ: Halloween Special Horror Movie Trivia

Alexa plays a horror-movie soundtrack, and when a player presses a button, they have the opportunity to answer a question. If a player answers a question correctly, their game piece advances on the board. The first player to correctly answer three questions wins the game.

Get in the Groove with Alexa as Your DJ

To indicate whether a player “has a chair” or not, I use their position on the console. At the start of the game, all players are moved up the console, and Alexa plays one of three randomly selected music tracks. Each round, the music plays for a random duration of 2 to 10 seconds.

At the end of each round, the player who presses their button the slowest is moved to the bottom of the console, indicating that they have lost their chair. The last player remaining with a chair is declared the winner.

Passing the Heat: Hot Potato Brings the Laughs and Thrills to the Party!

Similar to the game of musical chairs, the players’ positions on the console indicate if they “have the potato” or not. At the start of the game, all players are moved up the console, and the music begins. The player who initially holds the potato is moved up even higher on the console.

A random piece of music is selected to play for a duration of 5 to 12 seconds. The player holding the potato can pass it on to the next player by pressing their button. If a player is holding the potato when the music stops, they are eliminated, and the remaining players continue playing. The last player remaining is the winner.

Who Will Shoot First?

Like the game of musical chairs, the players’ positions on the console indicate whether they are “dead or alive.” At the start of the game, all players are moved up the console, and one of three randomly selected western spaghetti music tracks plays from Alexa. Each round, the music plays for a random duration of 2 to 10 seconds.

At the end of each round, the player who presses their button the slowest is moved to the bottom of the console, indicating that they have been shot and are now “dead,” simulating a Mexican standoff. The last player who remains “alive” is declared the winner.

Fuel Your Competitive Spirit with the Thrilling Race to the Top Game!

The objective of this game is straightforward – the faster a player taps their button, the faster their game piece moves up the console. The first player to reach the top of the console wins the game!
